A Trip to the Hamptons with Longines
By Yasemin Gumushan | 3 minute read
As the nights draw closer and we wave goodbye to the last of the sunshine, Watches of Switzerland marked the end of summer as an Official Sponsor of the Hamptons’ most sought-after event of the season, the Hampton Classic Horse Show.
Marking the 45th edition of the world-class equestrian event, the week-long VIP event attracted over 50,000 people. Whilst the nation’s best horses and riders competed for prestigious titles, Longines once again served as the Official Partner and Official Timekeeper of the show jumping competition. In addition, Longines awarded timepieces to winners of highlight events: Longines Cup, Longines Rider Challenge, and the Grand Prix competitions.
Since 1832, Longines has continued to keep tradition, sophistication, and exceptional performance at the core of its horological creations. An icon in the sports world, Longines sports-watch collections are both well-known and loved.
Together with partner Longines, Watches of Switzerland’s Airstream pop-up marked its 2021 farewell. After touring around New York City’s favorite summer playground, Hampton Classic attendees were invited to visit the custom Airstream boutique at the heart of the event. The traveling trailer offered a world of excitement for any watch or equestrian lover as it showcased a selection of Longines core pieces in a unique shopping experience.
DolceVita Collection
Since its inception, the Longines DolceVita collection illustrates the contemporary elegance of the Longines watchmaking brand worldwide. Inspired by the ‘Dolce Vita’, it is an homage to the sweetness of life. Today, a new chapter in this collection opens with a unique interpretation featuring softened lines. These new variations will not fail to impress women who have made charm a way of life.
Avigation Collection
A re-issue of a chronograph with a 1930s design, the Longines Avigation BigEye is now available in titanium with a petrol blue dial. Part of the great tradition of pilots’ watches, this 41-mm diameter timepiece is driven by an exclusive chronograph movement and fitted with a silicon balance-spring. In keeping with the spirit of pilot watches, this piece is characterised by its ease of reading.
Adorned with sanded black hands and Arabic numerals coated with SuperLuminova, its grained and shaded petrol blue dial features a seconds subdial, a 12-hour counter and an oversized 30- minute counter. This unusual feature inspired the models name, BigEye.
Legend Diver Collection
Longines’ expertise in diving all began in 1937, when water-resistance became a quality criterion. Developing a watch case with water-resistant push-pieces for its renowned 13ZN caliber, Longines took care to patent this creation before launching its first civil diving watch in 1958.
The Longines Legend Diver Watch is a flagship piece and has been re-issued. This line has gradually expanded and today proposes new versions in steel with blue or brown shades. The latest versions conserve the spirit and the pure lines of the original timepiece while benefiting from watch-making expertise.
Spirit Collection
Historically, Longines have accompanied legendary pioneers as they conquer air, land, and sea. Today, the winged hourglass brand has drawn inspiration from this heritage to create Longines Spirit, a collection with an impeccable pedigree. This collection links history with innovation by combining references to the glory days of aviation with present-day aesthetic and technical requirements.
